How do you order a sworn translation from Palma and the rest of Mallorca?
To get a sworn translation in Mallorca you do not need to visit an office, in Palma or anywhere else on the island. You send us the document scanned or photographed; we reply with a fixed quote and the delivery date in writing; and, once you confirm the order, a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation signs the translation. That signature makes it official throughout Spain, so the same translation is valid before a notary in Palma, the Civil Registry in Manacor or the immigration office. We deliver it as a PDF with electronic signature and, if the authority requires paper, by courier to your address on the island.
These are the areas of Mallorca with the most residents of foreign nationality, according to population data at 1 January 2024 published by Ibestat, the Balearic statistics institute (in Spanish):
Palma
One in five residents is a foreign national (88,243 out of 438,234). This is where you will find the Oficina de Extranjería (immigration office) for the Balearic Islands (C/ Felicià Fuster, 7), the Palma General Civil Registry Office, the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and the German and British consulates.
South-west
Calvià · AndratxCalvià (33.8% foreign residents) and Andratx (28.0%). If you sell a house in Santa Ponça or Port d’Andratx without coming to sign, the power of attorney you grant in your own country will need to arrive translated.
North
Pollença · AlcúdiaAlcúdia (28.2%) and Pollença (25.1%). From Port de Pollença or Port d’Alcúdia, you can place your order by email or WhatsApp without travelling to Palma.
East and south-east
Santanyí · Capdepera · ManacorSantanyí (28.6%) and Capdepera (26.8%). Manacor has 10,644 foreign residents and its own General Civil Registry Office, which accepts sworn translations just as Palma’s does.
Serra de Tramuntana
Sóller · Deià · ValldemossaDeià has the highest proportion on this list: 276 of its 732 residents (37.7%). Sóller stands at 20.2% and Valldemossa at 18.2%.
Around Palma and Inca
Llucmajor · Inca · MarratxíLlucmajor (19.5%) and Inca (19.3%) are close to Palma’s proportion; Marratxí stands at 7.1%. Inca has its own General Civil Registry Office.
Documents in German, English, Italian and Arabic: what changes in Mallorca
The country that issued the document determines whether it needs an apostille before it is translated.
German
German birth, marriage and criminal record certificates do not need an apostille in Spain under Regulation (EU) 2016/1191, which also lets you request a multilingual standard form. In the other direction, the Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany (C/ Porto Pi, 8) explains that multilingual Spanish death certificates are valid in Germany without translation.
English
Since Brexit, UK public documents no longer have that exemption: they are apostilled by the Legalisation Office before being translated. Documents from Ireland still follow EU rules. The British Consulate Palma de Mallorca (Carrer Convent dels Caputxins, 4) only sees visitors by appointment.
Italian
Italian public documents are also exempt from the apostille. For a master’s at the UIB, degrees in Italian do not need translating; for the Civil Registry or a notary, a sworn translation is usually required.
Arabic and French
Morocco is party to the Hague Convention: its documents are apostilled there before they are translated. If your certificate is in Arabic, in French or in both, we have sworn translators for both languages.
Which procedures in Mallorca will require a sworn translation?
In all these situations, the authority receiving the document decides what it requires: confirm with it before you order.
Buying or selling a house in Mallorca from abroad
The deed is signed before a notary on the island, and a foreign buyer needs an NIE. If you cannot come, you will grant a power of attorney in your country, which normally has to arrive apostilled (unless exempt) and with a sworn translation. If there is a mortgage, the bank may ask for your proof of income to be translated.
- Power of attorney granted outside Spain
- Tax returns and payslips
- Marriage certificate, if the notary asks for it
Moving to Mallorca from the United Kingdom
Since Brexit, British citizens who want to live in Mallorca and were not resident in Spain before 2021 need a visa. For the non-lucrative residence visa, the Consulate General of Spain in London requires the criminal record and medical certificates to be apostilled and accompanied by a sworn translation into Spanish.
Marrying a foreign national in Mallorca
The preliminary file is handled at the Civil Registry where one of the partners lives, or as a notarial record before a notary in that area. The foreign partner is asked for a birth certificate and a certificate of civil status or capacity to marry (in Germany, the Ehefähigkeitszeugnis).
- Birth certificate
- Certificate of capacity to marry or of civil status
- Divorce judgment, if previously married
Official master’s degree at the University of the Balearic Islands
According to the UIB’s Centre for Postgraduate Studies, documents in Spanish, Catalan, English, French, Italian or Portuguese do not need translating; a degree in German, for example, does: into Spanish or Catalan, by a sworn translator on the MAEC list. We do not handle degree recognition (homologación): we only translate.

Fixed priceReceive your translation
As a PDF with electronic signature, which is accepted for most online procedures, and on paper by courier to your address in Mallorca if the authority asks for it.
PDF or paper
If your document comes from outside the EU (the United Kingdom, Morocco…), get the Hague apostille there before sending it to us, so that the translation includes it. If it is a Spanish document going abroad, we arrange the apostille for you. Documents entirely in Spanish, such as those from Colombia, do not need a sworn translation: only an apostille or legalisation.
Who signs the sworn translation you will submit in Mallorca?

It is signed by a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (MAEC). The appointment is national: the translation has the same official status before a notary in Palma, the Civil Registry in Inca or a court in another province.
All appointed translators are listed, with their names and languages, in the MAEC’s official search tool (in Spanish). As the name appears on the stamp of your translation, you can check it as soon as you receive it.

Frequently asked questions about sworn translation in Mallorca
Do you do sworn translations from German in Mallorca?
Yes, from German into Spanish and the other way round. We translate, for example, powers of attorney (Vollmacht), certificates of inheritance (Erbschein), pension notices (Rentenbescheid) and certificates of capacity to marry. German civil status certificates do not need an apostille in Spain.
I am British and live in Mallorca. Do my documents need an apostille?
Usually, yes. Since Brexit, UK public documents no longer benefit from the EU exemption: they are apostilled in the UK by the Legalisation Office and then translated. This is how British birth and marriage certificates or divorce judgments are submitted in Mallorca.
I am buying or inheriting a property in Mallorca with foreign documents. What do I need to translate?
The notary decides, depending on the transaction. In a sale, the power of attorney granted outside Spain is usually required; in an inheritance, the death certificate, the will and the document proving who the heirs are (in Germany, the Erbschein; in England and Wales, the grant of probate). Ask the notary for the list and send it to us.
I live in Calvià, Manacor or Pollença. Do I have to go to Palma?
No. The whole process is remote and the translation has the same official validity wherever you live. You receive the signed PDF by email and, if your procedure requires paper, we send it to your home by courier.
I need a Spanish document for Germany or the UK. Will a Spanish sworn translation be accepted?
It depends on the authority receiving it. A Spanish sworn translation is official in Spain; abroad, each country decides whether to accept it, so ask before you order. If it is accepted and the document needs an apostille, we can arrange that for you too.
Is a sworn translation in PDF format valid?
We deliver it as a PDF with the sworn translator’s electronic signature, and most authorities accept it in that format. If yours asks for the document on paper, we send it by courier to your address in Mallorca.
How much does it cost and how long does it take?
It depends on the language, the length, the urgency and whether an apostille has to be arranged. You get a fixed, free quote, with a minimum order of €50; the usual turnaround is one to three weeks, with the date confirmed in writing.
